Queen’s Circle
Being Here With You/
Estando Aquí Contigo

Sep 20, 2018 - Feb 03, 2019, Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego, San Diego, CA

Being Here with You/ Estando aquí contigo was an exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego, that brought together work by 42 artists and collectives living and working in the San Diego and Tijuana region. Presenting early career and established artists, Being Here with You/ Estando aquí contigo highlighted distinctive practices shaping conversations and communities in our binational region and beyond.

Being Here with You/ Estando aquí contigo borrows its title from the bilingual song “Angel Baby” by Rosie and the Originals, a teenage band from National City, California, which points to the region’s rich history of homegrown talent. Recognizing that San Diego and Tijuana’s artistic communities are distinct but overlapping, the exhibition built on the ongoing artistic exchanges between the two cities.

As part of Being Here with You/ Estando aquí contigo, Parkeology featured an installation about Queen’s Circle: an oral history project about the lost art of LGBTQ+ cruising in Balboa Park, San Diego. The installation included a park bench listening station, a slide show of archival material, and a project zine, made in collaboration with Marina Grize and Burn All Books.
